Coin Build: Economy Snowballing & the Low-HP Safety Net

The Coin build’s core idea: spend coins for damage, lean on the safety net for survival. It lacks the Bomb build’s explosive output, but played well it’s one of the most stable clear routes in the game — and deeply counterintuitive, since it encourages you to keep your HP low.

Core Mechanic: The Low-HP Safety Net

The game has an undocumented safety rule (details in Crit & Skill Check mechanics):

  • HP >50%: at least 2 attack symbols on the reels;
  • HP ≤50%: at least 4 attack symbols on the reels.

The Coin build packs the reels with economy cards (Diamond/Coin/Penny Slinger). At healthy HP the safety net hands you 2 free attack symbols; below 50% HP it guarantees 4 attack symbols — the more economy cards you carry, the more “free” those guaranteed attack symbols are. This is the foundation of the entire playstyle.

Core Components

ComponentEffect
Diamond+1 coin per hit + built-in respin (crit ×4 at L10)
Penny Slinger+1.5 physical damage per coin (scales off your coin pool)
Gem (item)Active: 0-15 coins, crit ×3
Coin+1, crit ×6
Bounty ContractReturns coins based on damage dealt (perpetual loop)

Damage model: Penny Slinger is the build’s damage source — damage = base + current coins × 1.5. Coins cap at 100, so each hit adds at most +150 physical damage (crit ×3 = 450). Diamond’s built-in respin keeps coins flowing in.

Economy Route

Starting loadout: Coin + Wooden Shield + Hammer (the Coin build doesn’t need Poison Blade).

  1. Stages 1-3: transition with Coin + Hammer; until Diamond unlocks (stage 10), run Coin Bag/Fiver as stand-ins; always take the Gem item;
  2. Stages 4-6: buy Penny Slinger (unlocks at L2) and start saving toward the 100-coin cap;
  3. Stages 7-9: Diamond replaces every economy card (L5+), Penny Slinger at L5 (+150 physical damage per hit, capped);
  4. The Final Floor: enter fights below 50% HP (4 guaranteed attack symbols), farm coins with Diamond + respins, Penny Slinger hits 450+, kill in 2-3 turns.

Key Notes

  1. Lower your HP on purpose: drop below 50% before fights — the 4 guaranteed attack symbols keep economy-heavy reels from spinning dead (counterintuitive, but it works);
  2. Don’t fear losing HP: Gouda/Mushroom’s per-turn healing becomes your “safety-net sustainer” here — keeping HP in the 30-50% band is optimal;
  3. Spend coins right: the cap is 100 — once you’re full, prioritize upgrading Penny Slinger/Diamond instead of letting coins overflow.
